Windows Vista - is worthy upgrade?
I decided to buy Windows Vista Home Premium, for a reason and that was due to improved controls parents. I have a problem where my son spends too much time on the computer that has begun to lose their social skills. Not to mention the fact that once you go to bed rises and starts to play on the PC until 3 or 4 in the morning.
So the advanced parental controls in Windows Vista really attracted me, especially the time controls. This is where you can assign slots for each account. As soon as I installed it, the first thing I did was to specify what times you are allowed to access the team. For this reason, the cost of upgrading was well worth it.
Well that's my reason, but what is the rest of Vista, such as?
Good Having arrived via the postman, on the morning of Tuesday. Once wrapped, you are presented with a nicely packaged box. Not sure this level of packaging is required, considering that probably only used once or twice before the update with the family of Windows is released.
So after backup of all my critical data, I put the Vista disk in my machine. He began monitoring my PC and came with a message that I had to change the name of a file data and uninstall Nero So once this is done, I had to start over Vista. This time the checks and I spent the next four hours playing with your thumbs! It is a quick, let me tell you!
However, after four hours of renovation was finished, I was ready to check all the new features!
The way Windows Vista is presented is quite impressive compared to older versions. Two things I are like the Windows Sidebar and the screen change button (Areo feature).
The screen is large toggle button, like when has a number of open windows you can click and view displays all the screens in 3D waterfall in the center of the screen. It looks great and is really useful.
The Sidebar is also just as good. The sidebar is a collection of small information gadgets that attach to the side of the screen. In mine I have an analog clock, a calendar, a panel of local weather, CPU usage meter, plus $ to £ exchange rates and news from Yahoo. Other devices can be added, and I think more can be downloaded via the web. This is an excellent value as always difficult to find the date that works on the PC with earlier versions of Windows.
Another good addition is the ability to review the programs are in the start menu. As I had my PC for over a year there are programs that I rarely use and is very easy and off using this utility.
The start menu is more elusive than it used to be in XP. When you click the start button, you presents information similar to that of XP, but it is much better organized. All programs on the All Programs menu are listed sequentially in a scroll box as opposed to extending right through the screen as in XP. The usual shortcuts are also there, as the control panel, recent files, etc. ..
Windows Mail is much better. Essentially, Microsoft Outlook and has been well integrated into Windows Vista. Email can be checked at the click of a button. The features in Windows Mail does not have to scimped, with 99% of the features of Outlook available, ie, calendar, tasks, etc. ..
Explorer Windows has changed substantially and so easy to find the files you are looking for. As the details through the directories, a link to each directory subdirectory is displayed above the main window to get back on itself is simplified. Also the used / free space in each unit is shown in a bar above of the drive letters as a progress bar when downloading something from the web. My Documents, My Pictures, My Music now find specific links on the shortcut top of the Explorer window, which makes your media files very easy. Microsoft also has reduced the "my" part of the directory name. Something that always used to bother me!
Security is much improved. When you try to install anything, Windows is a question of the application confirmation of this action. It should help prevent some of the Trojans, I guess.
After using Internet Explorer 7.0 on Windows XP and now Vista, I can see why he many problems with XP. The 7.0 update was designed to integrate into Vista and this is clearly evident when first used. Pages load faster and IE is much more stable in Vista. I used to have 2 or 3 accidents a day in XP.
Other updates include Windows Photo Gallery, Windows Movie Maker, Windows DVD Maker, Windows Meeting Space, Sync Center, Center for accessibility, and some great new games. I have not had a chance to play with these new additions, however, except for a few games of Mahjong, but on the surface look very good.
The control panel is an area where Microsoft things have improved a lot, all is now more sensitive organized into several categories, namely security and system maintenance, user accounts, appearance and personalization, network and Internet, etc. ..
Perhaps the biggest addition is the Media Center. This lets you see all the photos and videos in either your desktop or on a TV connected. You can also view, pause and record live TV if you have a TV tuner on your machine.
Conclusion
I'ma bit of a gadget freak and love anything new. This is why you purchased XP when Vista came out and now. I must say that although Vista is certainly a massive improvement on XP. All of the operating system is much more stable and is packed with utilities and gadgets.
So worth the investment? Absolutely!
