How calm the violent tantrum? Can someone please help?
My son is about to turn 2, and has recently begun to launch attacks very violent, where it is either hurting or going to throw his toys around in nothing (ie, TV, windows, me), or will try to harm themselves hitting the head or full operation on a wall or a door. I need to find some ideas on how to get him out of the habit of doing. The things that my doctor told me that are not working and thought maybe someone here could give me some experience based advice.
Coming from someone who deals with tantrums autistic, I can tell you more of what they have said they will not work. First, if the tantrums are violent, at such a young age, not ignore them. Do some research and see if it fits the description given in autism or SID-sensory integration disorder. I tried ignoring them, the waiting time, all that, just does not work when they are that bad. The truth is that if you hurt or leave marks, you're the one who can get into trouble. Put it on your lap facing away from you, wrap your arms around him gently but firmly holding the wrist, until he calms down or stops, then turn around and hug him and calm him down if calmed down enough for you to do that. This will prevent him from hurting himself or someone else. When it's all done, talk to him about it, if you know why jumped in the first place. My son started this at 22 months, and it was our first sign that had autism. I thought it was normal because I had never seen what a tantrum seemed normal (that changed when I had my second, and the advice here works for him), but my sister saw one and knew that something was wrong. It's a big red flag for SID, too. With both disorders, they become so overwelmed that can not communicate the problem and just explode.
