Some surprising / interesting excerpts from a few popular works in Sanskrit

D. RAMESH

1.I have tried to delete some information, which many do not, you are truly amazing, on various aspects of life. I have tried to do this from the shrutis and Smritis.

The original mantras and slokas and their interpretations have been reproduced from the originals. In some places I have given my own interpretation. If this is not acceptable for academics, humbly offer my apologies to them while they undergo both a word about our shrutis and Smritis: our traditions permit incredible freedom to interpret the texts that the reader sees fit.

2.Before write anything more, I would say a word. I am not a scholar Sanskrit. I have not had the privilege of studying as a matter deeply. As my luck would have it, coincidentally, nearly 18 years, I had the opportunity to serve on the Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation, near Jigani. While there, I had the unique opportunity to hear the lectures of extraordinary people, learned a lot, very experienced. Hearing of these wonderful speeches was deeply affected and somehow pushed the study of Sanskrit texts, at least in its versions in English and Kannada. At this time, fortunately for me, Phanirajji Shri Dr.Ramaa and his wife were giving speeches at home, which was also not far from mine. His discourses on the Upanishads various Bhagadvad-Gita, the works of Shankara and others were delivered daily. I have never heard such wonderful and interesting speeches anywhere more. That were incomparably lucid, especially since Phanirajji is an exceptionally patient man who would not oppose a student to stop in the middle for clarification. He will never take their warning or ask for clarification at the end of the talk. Doubt will be clarified then and until the applicant was not satisfied. And all this he did with his wonderful smiling face. Then will resume his speeches from the exact spot where he was arrested. Dr.Ramaa also given similar talks.

3. These conversations changed our perspective life completely. Fortunately, he realized, but unfortunately a little late in life, a deep ocean of knowledge waiting to be enjoyed. Never again can adequately express my gratitude to these gurus what they have done to me and my wife. (At this point, my wife was hit by a terrible nervous disease that made him bedridden for nearly 18 months. This situation forced us to stop the great experience of hearing the speeches).

4. Fortunately for us, my wife, my children and my hobby (the only hobby) Reading: fiction, autobiographies, science, and all other forms of literature. This includes some books on Vedanta and similar traditions. Thus, most of the speeches of the wise, a little self-study, however inadequate, I came across some passages that are sometimes surprising, sometimes surprising and really, giving appropriate guidance for life. This seemed a rare privilege given to me and I was eager to share with others who may be concerned, some of these great tickets. At the same time, I had the greatest ambition, if you will, of the possibility of at least some readers to get inspired to try to change some of the most cruel and despicable practices that exist in our society.

  1. 5. The selected slokas in the writing and the situations are deliberately done randomly, so that at least some could be presented on many topics and issues as possible. Because of this, there can be no direct connection to all those of a game to the next and may take some time in the mind to adapt to the new songs! It's my stupid anxiety and enthusiasm to address one or the other item for readers who are unfamiliar with the topic could get some information. I ask pardon of the readers of this taxation.

6. After this introduction, but before going further, I must mention another point. Our society has cracked apart from considerations of caste, sub-castes. This has resulted in great damage. But one thing should be clear: the concept of "Varna" which appears on our Smritis has absolutely nothing to do with the current concept of upper and lower castes. We pause to consider why this has been started and why the present mess. In the Bhagavad Gita (Jnanayoga, chapter 4, sloka 13), Krishna says:

Srishtam mayaa Chaaturvarnyam gunakarmavibhagaasha

Tasyakartaarapimam Vidya kartaaramavyayam / /

What he is saying here is not unique to the people of India but to all humanity. It applies to every individual in society. Each individual in society has its own Special guna (tamas, rajas, sattva) and special aptitude for the job. Two children even born into it have completely different personalities in them. Then in the society as a whole, how many and how wide should be the difference!

7.Even in Western countries, was not the system of "Masons". This exists even now. There was no way that a person can move from one profession to another. So you have a Smith, a barber, Goldsmith, Miller, Baker and so on. These breeds were there. Even after the industrial revolution, continued for a couple of centuries. But in our society, in the initial period

Shoodraha Janmataa jaayae

Dwijaha Karmataa jaayaae

was accepted. (At the time of birth, everybody is a Sudra, only after their true nature and ability to work in what became a Brahmin, a Kshatriya, a Vaishya etc.).

8.The Gita says (18-42):

Shamo kshaantiraarjavamevacha shoucham damastapah

V jñaanam ijnaanamaastikyambrahmakarma

svabhaavajam

Serenity, self control, austerity, purity, forgiveness, honesty, also knowledge, wisdom and faith are born brahmana characteristics of their nature. Therefore, no matter what a family

born, it could move from one Varna to another, solely on the basis of our own natural gunas and skills.

9.There is a fine example in Scripture for this. (It seems that there is some difference of opinion among scholars on the dating of this incident. Some scholars are at the time of the Vasishtha-Janaka while others place upon Shri Shankaracharya. However, from available evidence, it would indeed seem to belong to the previous period). Jabala Sudra was a beautiful woman who seems to have had relations with several men. From this, he begat a son named Jaabaali. It was a bright child with a razor sharp mind. He was anxious to study the Vedas. Jabala did everything possible to convince him against it, knowing that her own circumstances and origin. She finally gives up and moves about the great sage Vasishtha. The sage asked about what gotra belong. To do this, Jaabaali replies that he does not know his gotra, his mother had relationships with many men who had been born out of wedlock. Vasishtha is very pleased with the response and comments: "Despite the bitterness of it, the truth has been spoken by you and therefore you are a true Brahmin. Come, I'll take you in my pupil! . Jaabaali teaches all that the scriptures and that becomes a great scholar.

10. Thus, the motion between the Varnas depended on the gunas of the individual and their special abilities. Now, however, the son of a vokkaliga is a son of a bania vokkaliga is a Bania, the son of a barber belong only to that caste, etc. has led to great concern in society. Thus, whenever the word Brahman is used in Smritis shrutis and refers not to a caste but a person who is clean physical and mind, serene, austere, equipped with the knowledge and wisdom etc. In this context, our past, President Abdul Kalam is a Brahmin, Kshatriya Deve Gowda is one vaishya Vijay Mallya and so on. (Rishi Valmiki was a hunter, a Kshatriya Vishwamitra rishis and some others were born in pots or fish!). There was no fixed link between birth and Varna. Thus the word brahmana occur in our shrutis Smritis and should be considered in the context described above, and not as someone born to breed.

11. The interpretations of mantras and slokas original is the one that appears in the original. In some places, I tried to give my own interpretation. If some scholars that this is unacceptable, let me say a word, even as the tender my apology for them: to give his own interpretation of Scripture is a freedom given to all in our culture, at all times. That freedom does not exist in other places maybe it's a matter of great pride for us. It is because of this freedom that Vedantins saankhya, chaaruvaakas, atheists, dwaitis, adwaitis, vishishtadwaitis and many, many other schools of thought emerged and flourished. I am therefore certain that even if a researcher disagree with the views of a not very bright person like me who would never question my right to speak.

13.The Hindu society and widows

13.1Till recently one of the most degrading aspects of our society is the attitude towards widows. These were the most cruel and inhuman treatment. Certainly much has changed for the better. But for thousands of years in the South, East, West and North of India, how many ways our society oppress widows, were bound by the concepts of Madi / mailige (not easily translatable into English, but in general, special types of 'clean' and 'dirty'). Until recently shaved heads, were made to wear saris only red or white, are not allowed to wear anything sewn, you can eating only one meal a day, made to serve the entire family working, caring for newborns and their mothers while they could never have had sex sex before they become widows? Their lives were worse than slaves. In the Brahmin families, I've seen it at least until the 60's and 70's the twentieth century, how cruelly applies such practices. If anyone saw a widow on the road, is considered a very bad sign and would be damned!

13.2 In Varanasi and miserable, widows of Bengal and other states do not live the life of a dog? When Mira Nair wanted to make a movie about this, he was expelled. That the practice exists even in Rajasthan and Punjab was something I learned to my surprise recently. This then is the situation in our society as it exists / existed. To justify these actions, the authors tolerated, and are accepting the practices saying 'this is what our dharma says.

13.3 But readers will be surprised to discover the reality: a woman seated next to the corpse of her dead husband and crying. What was shrutis say about this?

In the Rig Veda Samhita, 10th Mandala, 18th Sutra, mantra of 8 directions of the woman, saying:

Urdeeshva naaryabhi jeevalokam

Sesha Gataasu metamupa ehi /

Didhighostavedam Hastagraabhasya

Mabhisambaghoothaha Patyurjanitva / /

Hey woman, why Why are you crying sitting next to a corpse? Get up, go and find a good husband, marry and live happy ~

13.4 What amazing words? Did our ancestors deliberately suppressed this mantra to perpetuate the repression of women? When the woman had given freedom so surprising, for thousands of years, by our scriptures, why is kept hidden? As for me, did not even know until recently (I'm 75 now) that a mantra that exist. This mantra is so full of social meaning that I think anything that I have read so far, is useless. This mantra could have torn the practices cruelty against the widows of thousands of years!

13.5 Let me digress for just a little and then continue.

The slokas that appear in the shrutis are called mantras. That, when we contemplate or repeat leads to our being protected are the mantras (tra-protect, man watch, remember).

13.6 reading. Some years ago there was a Hindi movie song, he can remember, 'Devar bhaabhi Thera deevaanaa .. '. (For Indians South, the way the brother's wife plays with his older brother at times seems a little embarrassing). As if the bottom of this, against a woman who seems very happy and sports the Rig Veda (Mandala 10, sutra 40, mantra 2) says:

Kuhasva doshaa kuhavastorashvinaa

Karataha Suhaabhi pitvam kuhoshatuhu /

Kova shayatraa vidhavena hetaram

Maryam yethaa sathasthane krunute na / /

Having married his brother (Devara) is eagerly awaiting his return home!

Now listen to what 13.7 Maharshi Manu has to say about freedom for women and the rights of widows

Devaraadhvaa sapindaadvaa striyaa samyagnayuktaa /

Prajessithaadhi gantavyaa santaanasya parikshaye / /

A woman who is a problem-less and has realized he can not have children (of the man who is with), you can take the permission of her husband or elder and then proceed to have children of her husband's brother or relative of your choice.

13.8 This indicates that, indeed, was the widow remarriage, she could marry his own brother in law. (It seems that these marriages occur in Punjab, Haryana, Uttaranchal, etc, even now). A statement shrutis not discussed. Why then this claim has not appeared anywhere else? This is another example of the domination over women later?

13.9 In Skandapurana, a dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhisthira that describes the 'phalashruti' (the fruit of a bid in particular) of the "history varasiddhivinayaka kalpokta '(sloka 34), there is a passage: "vidhava poojayitvaa vai kvachit naapnuyaat vaidhavyam. (In fact, the passage is recited by all of us that Held on the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi at home). This passage means that if a widow does this worship, not become a widow. This could mean life today or the births to come. But that also speaks of Skandapurana widow remarriage is clear from this.

13.10 Once again,

Vidhavaayaam niyuktastu ghrutaakto vaagyato Nishi /

Dviteeyam Ekamutpaadayetthattram n kathanchana / /

With widows or when someone's wife is unable to have children of her husband, (another choice) a person who has sexual relations with that woman, you should smear his entire body with butter buffalo, have sex only at night and only beget a son, never a second.

13.11 It is clear from the foregoing that one also, if you want to have a problem, you might have to choose, and also that man has to.

Women 14.Freedom

14.1 of the previous discussions, it is clear that women had a great deal of freedom. Now let's examine two slokas (which are very popular and much-quoted);

Naaryastu poojyante ramante Yatra Tatra devataaha /

yatraitaastu na poojyante phalaakriyaaha sarvaastatra / /

When the woman is worshiped (respected), the gods also rejoice. Where there is no respect for women, all good deeds done are not lost because the gods are not happy.

14.2 Baalai piturvashe youvvane panigraahya tishteth /

Na priya Putraanaam bhartari Stree Stree bhajet swantrataama

The Oman w should be protected by the father in his childhood, by the husband in his youth, to protect his son after the death of her husband and she should never be left unprotected. (There is a version where the verse ends with

'Arhasi swatantram nastree ').

14-3 Some have interpreted this sloka in the sense that women do not deserve freedom. But taking into account the place that Manu has given to women, with reason, sense that a woman should never be left unprotected.

14.4 above statements have been reproduced Manu in the book "saara Manusmriti" by Shri NK Naraimha Murthy. My thanks bowing to him.

15. Social thanks

15.1 The "Hindu race, believing in the dharma sanaatana conscious or unconscious social attitudes have changed according to time requirements, but without letting traditional values of "dharma". Social values, such as eating meat, freedom of women, inheritance of property, management, etc. have undergone changes, either suddenly or over time. In the long chain of changes, the Hindu Code Bill enacted in the decade of the 1950s is a strong link. The Gram Panchayats are now working at village level, most women in the same general, the proposal to give women 33% representation in legislatures etc are the latest developments. These revolutionary changes in the basic tenets of a religion that may not happen in any other religion. Although, thanks the courage of Martin Luther, Christianity is divided into Catholics and Protestants, without significant social changes have been visible. In regard to Islam, only recently some intellectuals started to fight for equality for women, etc. But most followers of Islam seem to insist that the literal sense of the word is not one of the Sacred Qur'an, revealed a few thousand years ago, may change in any way. But as in all religions, changes must come sooner or later. That is the human spirit.

16. Eating meat

16.1 of the rituals described in the Vedas, it appears that animal sacrifice was in vogue. Even were risihis meat-eaters. According to McDowell, Indra is the highest god in the Rig Veda, and then, even higher than the position of Rudra is the Soma. Somarasa (wine or beer) was almost universally used. Some have opined that the Vedas were written under the influence of Somarasa!

16.2 As is well known, Shri Rama goes to forest to meet the word of his father. The group had to cross the river Ganges. They were assisted by Guha, in this. It was then that Sita loves Bhagirathi (Ganges) and is a gift, as the Branch must safely return to Ayodhya to take the throne, etc. She swears that if this is granted, it is a gift of cows a hundred thousand, and distribute clothes and organize a sumptuous feast and besides offering a thousand cans of alcoholic beverages to the Ganges, as also committed to make a sacrifice of large animals. (Ramayana, Ayodhyakanda, Serge 52, Slokas 82-89):

Mamsabhootaudadena Suraaghata sahasrena CHA /

Prayataadevi tvaam Yakshai punarupaagataa pureem / /

16.3 Wha t should be noted here that Rama was a Kshatriya and not prohibited meat consumption.

How high is 16.4 Shri Ramachandra? For those living in Kritayuga, there was no hunger, thirst, fatigue, illness or old age. In Tretayuga, although to a lesser extent, the dharma, devotion and health, etc. were of a higher order and people were built tall and large. In this context, Valmiki, while describes Shri Rama, mentioned his height? See this situation: Sita has been kidnapped. While searching for her, Rama and Lakshmana arrive Kishkinda. Then, friendship with Sugriva and Hanuman, the killing of Vali. As soon as the rainy season ended, the army of vanaras were divided into groups and sent separately in the four directions. Hanuman goes south and, with his yoga powers, leaps the ocean to reach Lanka. Sita was looking everywhere and finally finds it in Ashokavana. (From here, Sundarakanda of the Ramayana, Twill 35, Sloka from 6 to 20, Hanuman, describes all parts of the body of Shri Rama. While the interpretation of this, experts have pointed which is not the intention of Valmiki in the sense that Hanuman had seen all parts of the body of Shri Rama, but all that is described as an ideal body in Samudrika Shastra is present in Shri Rama). In shloka 19, while the interpretation of the latter part of the sloka:

Chatushkashchaturlekhashshkushchatuhtamah

scholars have interpreted to say that Shri Rama had a height of four kishkus (ie, 96 inches and 8 feet). If was 8 feet tall and taking into account Shri Rama who put his bow on the floor before shooting an arrow, the bow must have been at least 10 feet high! (Incidentally, in Kannada, the word aajaanubaahu generally used to mean a tall, with broad shoulders. But the meaning is actually the person who has his arms enough to reach his hands to his knees. As the gorillas!) (Sometimes I have received reprimands for aajaanubaahu nice interpretation of the word, which appears in the Ramaashtottara, as the evolution of man Shri Rama and that was at the stage of gorillas!) My dear sir, Branch should have just laughed at my words, and certainly not angry with me.

16.5 I already mentioned that Shri Rama is my 'ishtadevata. To describe how great he was, a Shloka of Ramayana has been cited. When he was so big, it is logical that Lakshmana Sita and therefore also have been physically gifted. If so, what was the quantity of food consumed?

16.6 Location: Shri Rama, Sita and Lakshmana have moved away from Ayodhya and, accompanied by Sumanta (with the help of Guha-) who have crossed the Ganges. With great difficulty, persuaded to Shri Rama Sumanta return to Ayodhya. It was late and had to think about food for the night. After all being Kshatriyas, the brothers go hunting and what do they bring? Valmiki says (Ayodhyakanda, Twill 52, Sloka 102):

Tau Tatvan hatvaa Chatur mahamrigaan /

Maharurum prashatam Varaahamarushyam /

Tvaritam Aadhaaya medhyam bubhukshitau /

Yuyuturvaspatim Vaasaaya col / /

"They considered that food necessary. Then, Rama and Lakshmana hunted boar and one of the three types of deer rishya namely trushata and mahaaruru. After consuming the flesh clean of these four animals, who took refuge under a tree overnight.

Four animals of the three on the ground! Our dear cousin Usha Rao hotteno often remarks "aDeNu, kannambadi katteno? (this is a stomach or prey kannambadi?). But remember that all dimensions in the Ramayana is larger than life. This is just an example of what small we are in Kaliyuga.

16.7 Later, Bharata reaches Chitrakoot in search of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana. Lakshmana, who observes from the top of a tree the huge army coming towards them, is furious. Meanwhile, Rama, sitting on the ground the ground floor, has put the meat in front of Sita and convince her: "Darling, this is well cooked (eat). "(Ramayana, Ayodhyakanda, Twill 96, Sloka 2):

Medhyamadamsvaadunishtaptamidamanninaa Idam /

Kevamaaste sadharmaatmaa seetyaasaha Raghavaha / /

16.8 The huge number of followers of Shri Rama does not look down on him for their meat consumption. On the contrary, love him for his magnificent and serene virtues. While it is clear that eating meat was common in a period of time, changing attitudes social and societal pressures perhaps forced the change in eating habits. In fact, in several sections of society, "maasha '(black gram) vadas are offered Shraadha in ceremonies instead of 'Mamsa' (meat). What must be noted here is the important aspect of the various aspects of life among Hindus and their acceptance by society. There was almost never an imposition of what should or should not do: you just never eat this, that, my own God is the God true worship should be only in this way, etc. Thus we have what has become a cliche: 'unity in diversity'.

17. What is 'namaskara saashtaanga'?

17.1 Pranipaata is the prostration before the elders or the guru. When we were young, we were trying to locate the eight body parts that make up the 'saashtaanga in shock. Perhaps others should also have been raised similarly. But 'saashtaanga' is:

No jaanubhyaam padbhyamcha bhaagyam urasaa shirasaa drushaa /

Manasaa vachasaa chaiva pranamoshtaagnaeeritaha / /

17.2 hands, feet, knees, chest, head, eyes, mind and words - these are the eight parts. That is, while paying respects, not just body gestures, but do it with the mind and words.

17.3 This passage occurs in the Sanskrit-English Dictionary (p 67) of Shri Vaman Shivram Apte:

Cha Jaanubhyaam táthaa panibhyaamurasaathiyaa padbhyam /

Shirasaa vachasas drishtachaa pranaamoshtaangi eeritaha / /

GUESTS

18. A 'Atithi' is a guest who has come unexpectedly, without an appointment. Some experts define as a person who remains one of only a night and leaves. How do they behave with a Atithi? This is explained in more of a text. The general principle is follows (Mahabharata, sabhaparva, Rishi Shounaka is guaranteed by Dharmaraya): When an Atithi arrives, the head of the family must show a friendly face and happy. Second Instead, their words must be polite. Then, with a genuine feeling of affection, which should settle the Atithi in a proper seat and offer water or a cold drink. He must please guests with items that the customer wants. For the tired and should offer a comfortable bed, for those who are tired of walking, offer a seat, water for the thirsty, food for the hungry - the householder should offer this. Finally, when the guest leaves, the host must accompany a distance at least. In some places, it is mentioned that the host must walk with the results so 'bahirvaatika' or the outer door (Mahabharata, sabhaparva). The rules that Taittreya Upanishad 'na annampratyaachksheeta' (the food can not be rejected) and 'na Kanchana vasatau pratyaachaksheeta' (regardless of whom it may concern, housing should not be rejected). These are defined as "vratas', which means they have to be followed.

19. Why we need all the rest?

19.1 There was a great rishi Yaagnavalka. He appears in both shrutis and Smritis. His wife was Katyayini. Another woman, Maitreyi, hopes to become a student of Rishi. He disagrees. Maitreyi convinces Katyayini and marries Yagnavalka. But theirs is a relationship platonic. Maitreyi is capable of winning

deep knowledge of Brahman, etc. Your ability to learn endears his Yagnavalka.

19.2 Yagnavalka paarivraajaka decides to stop it is to take sanyasa. He leaves all his property to Maitreyi. She asks him why he wants to take sanyasa. He explains that only the Brahman is the truth, the whole wealth and possessions are not permanent here and other things. If that is so, says Maitreyi, why would he need all that. She would accompany him to the forest, she says. Their debate is so suddenly, makes a statement surprisingly Yagnavalka.

19.3 Maitreyi asks if he can achieve immortality by have a very rich life. He replied that there is no hope of immortality by wealth. She does not want to repeat something that does not lead to immortality and begs her to teach him their knowledge about this.

19.4 The agreement to do so, gives an interpretation of immortality. There are several comments in his response. Readers can give their own interpretation. Yagnavalka says (Shukla Yajurveda, shatapata brahmana, upanishat brihadaaranyhaka, munikaanda, brahmana 5, 6 mantra):

Narvaare sarvasya kaamaaya priyambhavati sarvam /

Priyambhavati sarvam Aatmanastu kaamaaya / etc /

"The woman is not loved by her husband for the sake of women. She is beloved because of its use for the husband. The husband becomes the face to women as it is of use for it. It is no good children who are face to parents, but because children are useful for parents. The money is not wanted for the reason that money is useful, but because it is useful to man that the money is sought. Similarly, animals, the Brahmins, Kshatriyas, the different worlds, the gods, the Vedas, etc. Not all are loved because they are useful to all, but only because they are useful to a particular person. "

19.5 This may read like a more simplified interpretation. But this is also an interpretation. And our own experience and honest reflection, which is a really fantastic! Do not you goosebumps? My appeal to Jnaanis is, forgive me if I'm wrong. But you know better than I sanaatana system in our Dharma. Any person, whether freedom to interpret any work in any form deemed correct. Sorry for at least this reason.

20.1 In the four ways to learn yoga., Raja, jñaana, karma and bhakti, many (including scholars and Narada) believes that the Bhaktiyoga is the best route. And in the Bhaktiyoga, the easiest way is 'naamajapa' which is the repetition of the name of the Lord. This name could be one prescribed by a guru or selected by japa oneself. And this method is simpler and easier to achieve the realization of God.

20.2 Indeed, this action of japa is prevalent in all religions in one form or another. Jews, Christians, Muslims, Sikhs and all other practice. After India covered the bhakti movement (Tulsa, Surda, Meera, Guru Nanak, Chaitanya, the alwars (Vaishnavite) and Nayanmars (Shaivite) of Tamil Nadu, the Dasas of Karnataka, etc) the pressure on the japa is universal: sumiranakarale mere mana, chodadiya mai kyu naamajapana, ramanaamava nudi nudi, mado Nirantar harismarane, etcetc.

21. Methods Japa

21,1 "Japa" means constant re-petition of a short-term mantra (and is selected by itself or taught by a teacher). This is also considered a yagna is, a ceremony of sacrifice and is named japayagna. These are 21.2 three types:

pronounce words clearly and loudly, which can be heard by others too, is vaachaka japayajna and if others can see his lips motion and hear the person repeat a name, but quietly, called upaamshujapayajna, repeat the mantra mentally and no one else can hear is maanasajapayajna. (This is explained in the Mahabharata shantiparva of -194.10).

Manusmriti 21.3 (2-85) said that japayajna is ten times the vidhiyajna a hundred times japayajna vaachaka and the maanasajapayajna is a thousand times the upaamshujapayajna. Most of us have heard one or another of our neighbors in the recitation of mantras loudly. This is a message to neighbors such.

22. Methods of Debate

22.1 We have seen / heard in Parliament and that the Assemblies of the Member States not to discuss the issues, but the fight, shouting and otherwise behave in ways that do not know what he is saying. In this situation, What about our deeds debate?

22.2 According to the Scriptures, there are three ways to debate: Jalpa, vitanda and vaada. Jalpa is the debate for the sole purpose of defeating the opponent. (Examples that come to mind are our Deve Gowda and the poor spokesman of the Congress Party, Dr.Abhishek Sanghvi. Whenever Deve Gowda spoke, no one has heard of the nation's development and prosperity? He is always criticizing either the BJP or pour venom upon Mr. Kheni of Nice. Apart from these two subjects, has spoken on any topic, or anything done for the country? Then the poor Dr.Sanghvi: you have to somehow demonstrate that what his party has done is correct, if indeed it is right or not.)

22.3 Without bothering to give arguments for their beliefs, one can keep criticizing the opponent, for the sake of opposition. This is vitandaa vaada. There are followers of a philosophical belief that instead of pointing out the greatness and truth of the teachings of his own guru, just enjoy criticizing the other philosophy guru. Therefore, there is a group that keeps criticizing Shri Shankacharya and his teachings rather than to any greatness in the teachings of his own guru.

22.4 After listening and correctly understand the viewpoint of the opponent and then place their own arguments so convincingly that the both parties understand the views of the other is vaada. This is usually followed by researchers, scientists. Not that they do not fight! But intellectually honest those seeking the truth, follow the path of vaada. In our Parliament samples of such persons are Chidambaram, Advani, Jaswant Singh and Vajpayeeji.

23. TV DINNERS

23.1 Generally in the lower and middle class families of the dinner coincides with the primetime television channels, ie, the channels of competition for audiences, offering their best programs.

23.2 Similarly, today, more and more families have both husband and wife working to increase revenue. Coming home tired and after cooking some dinner, hold their plates in their hands, sitting in front of television and dinner plate set on his knee! Perhaps this is the only respite for them. This is called TV dinner in America.

23.4 But Manusmruti (4-19) said:

Navaaryamjanaapribet vraacheshtaam Nakurveeta /

Chapaadautrataapayor prakshipedagnau Notrange / /

  1. "Do not shake hands and legs without necessity, not drinking water from cupped hands, never hold food in the thighs (legs) and eat, do not show interest in things that do not concern him. "

A sage Manu 23.5 as these warnings would not without a logical reason to do them. These are not explains itself, but academics should sloka, I am sure be able to explain why he said what is Manu. While all the warnings are applicable to our everyday life, what is relevant for us is to not eat on a plate held in the thighs. Those who wish to ignore This can be done. But when sitting for dinner at night, parents and children are all together and eat food and that is the time in which to exchange ideas about what happened that day or what to do in a given situation. Children may ask their parents and get clarification on points that are exercising their minds. Otherwise, when the members of the family elders and young people to do that? Also, if you ignore the injunctions of Manu and continue eating food out of their thighs, which also would be somewhat breaking the requirement within the Taittreya Upanishad: "Annam nindyaat not. Furthermore, since the mind is on TV and not the food, the metabolic activity leading to the digestion and absorption of food would be affected.

23.6 My adoptive mother, goddess of SMT afternoon. A Indiramma, he said over and over, 'the family must eat at least one meal a day, all sitting together. This ensures family safety. "And this wonderful woman did not show this act and its outcome in its own small family.

24. PROTOCOL ON THE FOOD SERVICE

24.1 Normally, in our marriages, people from one side of child given the priority to eat at first. Side of the girl is fed later. But let's see what our smrutis have to say about this.

24.2 In Manusmriti, Manu (Chapter III, slokas 38-43) provides a specific protocol. After giving offerings to the gods, offerings in all four directions outdoors, India (East), Yama (South), Varuna (West), Soma (North) should be done (rice and water, flowers, incense).

24.3 then dogs, outcasts, those who eat the flesh of dogs, people with leprosy and other diseases, beggars, crows, insects, of these, the food must be carefully on the ground so that food does not get messed up. After that, before the householder has his food, feed the guests and give alms to the Brahmins who have come for her.

24.5 Atithi Here the word to be explained again. Tithi means a given time ad date. But none of these and without warning, those who come to your house are atithis. Another explanation given above also, is that the person who stays in one night. 'Abhyagata' is which has accepted an invitation and go. You should receive guests arriving at home with a smile, sit in a suitable location and prepare a meal and to their state. If your partner class and others, come to your home, must be received with respect and should sit down with the hosts and guests for dinner.

24.6 are newlyweds, daughters-in-law of the house, girls, young unmarried people who are not well, pregnant women, for all of them, no doubt-even before power feed people.

25. TECHNICAL Skill in ancient days, VERY

25.1 helicopter!

25.2 To the witnesses of the greatness of Dharmaraya in yaaga Rajasooya of Indraprastha, a variety of gods like Indra and others had gotten there. When they arrived, parked their respective planes on top of buildings allocated for your stay, down yaaga the room to view it! Do you now remind us that today dome perches in their offices from their helicopters? (sabhaparva the end of chapter 35th).

26. GUNS AT THE TIME OF MAHABHARATA /

26.1 When Yudhisthira asks Bhishma what are the duties of the king, the responses in this Finally in great detail. (Mahabharaata, which shantiparva-parva is the longest in the whole epic) that shantiparva, Chapter 69, The 45th sloka says:

Dwareshu cha gurooneva yastrani sthaapayetsadaa /

Aaropyechvataghneescha svaadheenaani cha kaarayate / /

26.2 The great scholars of the "shrimanmahabharata" by Prakashana Bharatadarshana have commented above sloka as follows:

Large machines must be fixed in such access. The guns will be placed on those machines. The king should have complete control of these teams.

27. Science and meanings hidden in the text of Scripture AGE

27.1 says that each mantra / sloka has a hidden meaning. When an old man had told me so when I was young, I had insulted with words strong enough. I was, after all, a great scholar of science! But to know about the hidden meanings, knowledge of Sanskrit alone is not sufficient. Also need to know mathematics, astronomy, algebra, geometry, physics, chemistry, etc. It seems that people are equipped to access the hidden meanings.

27.2 At the University Maryland, USA, Dr.Satish Kak is Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science. He interpreted the ancient texts (eg the use of mathematics in the construction of the 'yagnakundas'), etc. has been written about in ancient texts like. In fact, visit the Indian Institute of Science every year to give conferences.

27.3 I had the opportunity to give him WIH. One interesting thing I remember is this: most of us know the lines of 'Purushasukta ". The first lines are: Sahasra sheershaa purushaha sahasraaksha sabhoomim sahasrapath vishvato vritvaa attyattishtha dashaangulam ... ...". When processed Prof.Kak these few words at cryptanalysis team won the distance from the sun to the moon, Earth's moon and earth from the sun. He said that the thesis of estimates of 99.9% accuracy for today's estimates based on the most sophisticated equipment and methods. Of course, I'm not able to understand how, but I am deeply impressed that a line of an ancient prayer should produce such amazing results.

27.4 When I was trying to explain this work of Naren Dr.Kak my grandson, the exceptionally bright boy brought to my attention a fascinating book I had read. That was the "Introduction to Vedic Mathematics 'by Shri S. Keshavamurthy, 2000. As an example of secret writing, Shri Keshavamurthy sloka reproduced as follows:

GOPIBHAGYA MADHUVRATA SHRINGEE SHODHAADHI SANDHIGAHA

KHALAJEEVITAKHADHABA Gahal SANDHARAHA

Shri 27.5 Keshavamurthy says there are three meanings a sloka:

1.Fistly, this sloka is in praise of Lord Krishna

2. Secondly, is in praise of Lord Shankara.

3.Thirdly (this is very valuable in a mathematical sense), which gives a tenth of the value of 'pi' to 32 decimal places! ( 'Pi' is the result of dividing the circumference of any circle to its diameter). The answer is always 22 / 7. The value given is the previous sloka:

0.31415926535897932384626433832792 !

Can you see the magnificence of this? Those who do not care at all about the Vedas and vedangas might be awakened to the possibilities of these examples. I feel very much indebted to Shri Keshavamurthy to this sloka.

28. RAJADHARMA (RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE GOVERNMENT)

28.1 FARMERS

Sabhaaparva of 28.2 in the Mahabharata, Narada Dharmaraya questions as follows: "I hope we are not allowing agriculture depends only rains, but it is building large ponds and lakes? And then the seeds for planting are carefully maintained, as well as grain protected from being destroyed by pests? Do you provide loans for the development of farmers in the interest rate of one per cent per annum? "Note that Narada has covered irrigation, seeds for next season, food grains, pesticides and loans to farmers at nominal interest rates! Now we have a great and very, very, wealthy executives who claim to be children of poor farmers to do nothing at all for farmers, but many of their own sons and daughters in law!

29. DISABLED

(We're supposed to use the phrase "physical" and not say "handicapped." While our hearts are with them and do everything we can to help, which is the time to fight in a name. In Kannada, we can say "a person who cares for the sheep", but we can not say "(pastor kuruba) '! Shounaka Rishi Dharmaraya advises: "His other major task is to care for the blind, mute, limbless, the physically disabled, orphans and sanyaasis him only as a father takes his children. "Is not this a wonderful way to care for one of its citizens, regardless of who they are and how are?

30. REPUBLICS ON

30.1 In shantiparva of Mahabharata (Chapter 107) Dharmaraya many questions of Bhishma big. Bhishma answered all questions with patience, love and in detail. Dharmaraya makes an interesting question: "How do people in the republics of obtaining prosperity and progress? The root cause of the destruction of the republics is the lack of unity. In the councils of the Republic where there are large numbers of people, is hard to keep secrets. Please enlighten me on how they should behave so that the republics not to break. "(Sloka 7,8). (This question seems to be the coalition governments that we see today!)

30.2 Bhishma replies: The tools with which the fire of hatred in the groups fed the greed and lack tolerance ( 'aamarsha'). One tries to get the money from the other. Seeing this greedy person, the other's mind becomes intolerant. Influenced by greed and intolerance, groups of people (such as today's smaller parties) are fighting each other, resulting in the loss of their membership and finances. They destroyed that. (Slikas 10,11). How fascinating true to what is happening today!

30.3 The King (read Chief Minister) and other groups to seek to break the opposition by sending their own agents. They conspire to destroy each other. They use the traditional Saama, Daana, Danda bheda and methods. They try to destroy the other groups for doing everything possible to reduce the number of opposition (aayaaraam, gayaaraam) and by making the opposition lose their Resourses. Current cases: people who like bees from flower to flower hops without remorse: Bangarappa, Siddaramaiah, Shibu Soren, and many other politicians innumerable Senior and Junior.

30.4 The respectable people of the Republic without hesitation to punish their own children and siblings if they are breaking the law, without fear or favor. (It was the former Prime Minister of Britain, Margaret Thatcher's son in some corruption charges in a third country. He was punished by the law. In the same Thus, the son of Prime Minister Tony Blair was found driving drunk. It was unceremoniously taken to the police station, tried and duly punished). In our own country, how many of implementing our "leaders" over people with his BMW. For decades, they are not punished. Have we ever heard bring that person punished? (The grandson of former Our Prime Minister Deve Gowda and his friends took in his BMW into a hotel and beat the workers there. Are they being punished? Another interesting point: how the grandson of "the son of a poor farmer" get to have a BMW?

30.5 leaders of various groups in secret must meet and discuss ways of building the Republic. Otherwise, if the groups are independent and have a great difference of opinion, the works for the welfare nothing will be done publicly. In addition to several other types of problems are created. (sloka 26).

30.6 As we and the leaders who have left a party after a fight or otherwise, to join another party and after some time, returns to the first same party. This is a national disgrace. Of course, politicians are shameless anyway. Bangarappa, Siddaramaiah, Deve Gowda, Mahima Patil, Shibu Soren - the list is endless.

30.7 If I keep writing like this can never end. Societal behavior, regardless of the subject: humor, mathematics, astronomy, theater, music, dance, devotion, God, Brahman, universal consciousness, food, cooking, etc, etc, whatever the topic, extracts significantly, we can be proud, are available at texts from truly countless. The only limitation is the capacity of my own mind and brain.

31. As a bee hopping from flower to flower, I jumped from one subject to another subject entirely unrelated. This even might have irritated some readers. My desire was to cover as many subjects as possible. As already presented by me, my effort is like a person who collects a jar of sea water and say that it has collected water from the ocean.

32. I have a desire to write a few more items after this. I will be able to do if not the blessing of my Guru. But If this article has tickled your curiosity, even a little, I feel blessed.
